The Glourious 1st of June
THE GLORIOUS FIRST OF JUNE
June 1st 1794 Admiral Lord Howe of Langar Hall, vanquished the French Fleet at the battle known as The Glorious First of June. For generations we have celebrated this with .a short service in Langar Church where the Admiral is buried. The naval prayer is read and then champagne and laurel leaves are sprinkled on his tomb. Afterwards the party returns to the house for an informal dinner where more toasts are drunk and guest share their knowledge of naval history. Although Earl Howe came from landlocked Nottinghamshire, his naval career is one of the most remarkable on record.
